A Central Line train of 1991-2 stock approaches Woodford station on the 6th July 2003. Following an incident at Chancery Lane at the end of January 2003, when a traction motor became detached from the train, the whole fleet were taken out of service so that modifications could be made to them. In all the history of the London Underground it was unprecedented for a whole fleet of trains to be suddenly withdrawn and operations on a Line totally halted. Normal service was not resumed until just before Easter.

A Central Line train is seen at Woodford on Sunday 6th July 2003. Most stations on this section of the Central Line are not typical Underground in appearence as they originate from Great Eastern steam days. The Epping branch of the line only became part of the Underground in the late 1940s.

London Underground Central Line 1992 Stock EMUs 91157 and 91175 pass south of Woodford tube station. 91157 on the left is in the reversing siding between services to and from Ealing Broadway via the Hailault loop. 91175 on the right is on a westbound Epping to West Ruislip serivce - at 34.1 miles (54.9km) this is the longest journey on the tube that can be made without changing - taking 1 hour 28 ½ minutes.
