150 YEARS OF RAILWAY HISTORY. On August 19th 2006 London Underground's Central Line from
Leyton to Loughton was 150 years old and therefore forms the oldest part of the Underground Network. Loughton was
first served by Tube Trains in 1948 which we understand were re-furbished 1924 Standard Stock. This was followed by
the Silver 1962 Stock and then the current 1992 trains one of which is pictured here at Loughton in late August 2006.

Not always after bridges are hit do trains have to stop using them. As the result of a 'complete idiot'
failing to see that his skip lorry will NOT go under, this bridge just to the east of Loughton Station was
hit...not for the first time I might add...and quite badly damaged. A BLACK and YELLOW horizontal bar,
that had been removed when this picture was taken, took the full force of the impact so leaving the bridge span itself relatively
unscathed but the brickwork...as can be seen in the picture...was cracked and the supporting earthwork weakened.
This incident took place in early June 2006 and was not put right for several weeks, the resulting road closure
causing considerable inconvenience as it is the only direct route for some into the town centre.
The culprit apparently backed out his lorry and to my knowledge has not been apprehended! Meanwhile this
Central Line city bound train is no doubt making a slower than usual approach to the nearby station.

Central Line 1992 Stock EMU 91285 in the centre road at Loughton tube station, technically in Essex Loughton is very much part of the London urban area. With platform faces on either side of the track, the centre road is frequently used by reversing trains - as in this case, this cab has led the eastbound serivce and will be at the rear of the train for the westbound journey.

THE FIRST LONDON UNDERGROUND ROUNDEL IS 100 YEARS OLD.
In 1908 the companies operating London's Underground trains agreed to have just one symbol to represent all the different lines. The famous iconic Roundel we know today however did not start to appear until the early 1920s. A 1992 stock deep tunnel Central Line train runs into Loughton on its way to Epping in November 2008. More pictures of LONDON UNDERGROUND marking this event can be seen on our site below.

Thanks to global warming a decent fall of snow around London has now become increasingly rare and
opportunities like this do not arise very often or last that long. Here a city bound Central Line Tube train
runs into Loughton on a snowy February 8th 2007.
