A closeup of the teak floor of an unrefurbished District Line D stock EMU. The photograph shows the difference in how the varnish on the wood has survived in high-traffic areas near the door and next to the corner of the seat where comparitively few people have tread.

All District Line stock is currently being re-furbished and will reappear in Transport for London colours so
this rather plain look will soon be gone. The bright morning sun of the 1st March 2006 at Upminster
makes the picture very worthwhile though.

THE FIRST LONDON UNDERGROUND ROUNDEL IS 100 YEARS OLD.
In 1908 the companies operating London's Underground trains agreed to have just one symbol to represent all the different lines. The famous iconic Roundel we know today however did not start to appear until the early 1920s. A sub-surface D stock train dating from 1978 runs into Kew Gardens station on the District line in October 2008. More pictures of LONDON UNDERGROUND marking this event can be seen on our site below.
