Prototype Networker Classic.

No: 76112, which was built on the underframe of Class 421/3 DTCsoL No:76112, is seen on display at the South West Trains Bournmouth depot open day on Saturday 16th May 1998 at 15:25 while coupled to Class 422/3 DTCsoL No: 76747.
76112 used the underframe & equipment of the original 76112 (ex Class 421/3 DTCsoL) which had it's original MK1 bodywork cut away from the underframe and replaced by a more sturdier steel body bolted on to it's underframe.
At the fraction of the cost of a complete new car or unit, this method creates a cheaper, stronger unit to produce from MK1 designed stock for prospective TOC's or ROSCO's, currently operating these units, who are currently looking to replace such vehicles with new vehicles.
