UK Class 455/7 EMU South West Trains unit 455738 at Wimbledon with a London Waterloo-Dorking via Epsom service on Tuesday June 8th, 1999. Built from 1984 to 1985 as 3 car units, they were augmented with 1977-80 trailer seconds from class 508 units. 508s had a different roof profile as can be seen from the 2 car in the unit. These units are all second class seating and work on suburban services. Top speed is 75 mph, 120 km/h and have 4 traction motor rated at a total of 740 kW, 992 hp. Two South West Trains Class 455 EMUs depart Vauxhall station in south London with a service from London Waterloo. Unit 455718 is at the rear, I wasn't able to identify the lead unit though. Refurbished Class 455 Inner-urban EMU of South West Trains. Vestibule. In an attempt to contain dwelling times, doors slide deeper (by 5 inches overall) into their pockets than pre-refurbishment, meaning that 2 people may comfortably board or alight at the same time. The red livery means that this fleet is confined to Inner-urban, "Metro" duties. Doors have been painted in yellow, so as to comply with the guidelines of the Health & Safety Executive. Class 455/7 TSO (Trailer Standard Open). No: 71537, from SWT EMU No: 5739, is seen within this unit while on display at the South West Trains Bournmouth depot open day on Sunday 17th May 1998 at 09:21. This car was originally a Class 508 TSO. Upon the transfer of all 4-car class 508's away from the SR to Merseyside during the 1980's, 1 TSO vehicle was removed from all of these units and were used to strenthen the Class 455/7's from 3-car to 4-car which were being built new at the time.
