Waterloo, on a dull St. Valentine's Day morning, Monday 14th February 2005. Imagine the conversation : "My train's got a Dellner !" "Yeah, but my train's got buffers !" Class 412 4-BEP unit no. 2311, one of the last two in service with South West Trains at that time, waits at the rear of a 12-car slamdoor formation about to depart empty from Platform 13. In Platform 12, Class 450 Desiro unit no. 450078 has recently arrived at the head of a 12-car formation on the 07.24 service from Basingstoke, substituting - ironically - for a 12-slam, and will soon depart at the rear of the 08.39 service to Southampton Central. The diagram starting with the 07.24 ex-Basingstoke service ran as a 12-slam every day for the rest of the week. Photo by Mark Ziemba, scan by Fuji.
