Well they may no longer operate commuter trains into London but fortunately the classic suburban 'slam door'
unit is still around be it only on the short 6 mile Lymington branch and as long as this is the case you can still
enjoy the experience. 3Cig 1497 approaches Brockenhurst in the New Forest on the 27th July 2006.

Lymington is a port for travelling to the Isle of Wight. A ferry can be seen here alongside Lymington Pier
as the Blue Grey 3Cig unit approaches in the background. It is quite likely this delightful branch line would
not be around today ...the 27th July 2006...if it was not for this the shortest sea crossing to the island.

Lymington Pier Station...now this REALLY is the end of the line for BR's famous slam door trains of the 1960s...pictured

The classic Blue Grey BR livery dating from the 1960s still looks good today and to be able to see and picture it on a
service train all these years later is a welcomed bonus particularly in such a pleasant surroundings as Lymington Harbour.
The date of this view the 27th July 2006.

A combination of boats and a gloriuos Summer's day provides a perfect background to picture

on the 27th July 2006.

Its nice to be able to combine wild life and trains in pictures but not all places are as ideal as Lymington. Here
we see 3 'Cig' 1497 crossing the river while the lone adult swan a her 'cygnets' search for food in the foreground.

3 Cig 1497 prepares to depart from Brokenhurst for is short run to Lymington on the 27th July 2006. This South West Trains
operated service enables enthusiasts and passengers to continue to experience this classic London commuter train.
Up grading the branch to take the new 450s would both cost money and take sets off busier routes so it
makes good sence to use these old EMUs...a second Green 3Cig is also available... on this 'Heritage' service that
hopefully will run for some time to come.
