Fleet, on a dismal Saturday evening, 11th June 2005. The Staff-only edition of the South West Trains "Seaside Slammer" railtour (17.08 ex-Weymouth) approaches Fleet on the up main line, no more than a minute behind time, in hot pursuit of the 17.00 ex-Weymouth service. Class 421 3-CIG unit no. 1498 "Farringford" leads Class 423 4-VEP unit no. 3417 "Gordon Pettitt". I know that this is a poor photograph, and I have tried to improve it a little bit, but I want to submit it as part of the historical record. Photo and scan by Mark Ziemba.

Class 412 4-BEP unit no. 2315, the other one of the last two in service with South West Trains at that time, waits at the rear of a 12-car slamdoor formation about to depart empty from Platform 13. In Platform 12, Class 421 4-CIG unit no. 1302 has recently arrived at the head of a 12-slam on the 07.24 service from Basingstoke, and will soon depart at the rear of the 08.39 service to Southampton Central. The diagram starting with the 07.24 ex-Basingstoke service ran as a 10-car Class 444 formation from the following Monday, 21st February 2005, but reverted to a 12-slam after the Easter break.
