Fleet_11062005_1498.jpg (97647 bytes)

Fleet, on a dismal Saturday evening, 11th June 2005.

The Staff-only edition of the South West Trains "Seaside Slammer" railtour (17.08 ex-Weymouth) approaches Fleet on the up main line, no more than a minute behind time, in hot pursuit of the 17.00 ex-Weymouth service.

Class 421 3-CIG unit no. 1498 "Farringford" leads Class 423 4-VEP unit no. 3417 "Gordon Pettitt".

I know that this is a poor photograph, and I have tried to improve it a little bit, but I want to submit it as part of the historical record.

ck-last-slam-jp.jpg (155874 bytes)

A bit of railway history this! The last scheduled slam door departure by South West Trains out of London Waterloo. This took place on the 26th May 2005 and the 'Lymington Flyer' is seen here at Wimbledon. They may be old but they will be missed with their distinctive look and sounds and are still well capable of a good turn of speed.
