These units are still out and about quite a bit in Edinburgh, so I guess it’s no news that I’ve got a photograph of them. But, it is some news that I have got a photo the first and the second units lined up nicely like this! The class is used exclusively for the short commuter run between Edinburgh and North Berwick, and can be seen hanging around in Edinburgh Waverley station quite a bit, though they are usually randomly parked so photos of them lined up is quite difficult to get. It’s somewhat strange that Scotrail keeps about ten of these... I think their existing hourly service between here and North Berwick could probably be diagrammed with just two, and maybe one on standby. Most of the units are non-refurbished and don’t have paranomic windows like these, though one or two do. Note the differing position of the Scotrail logo on the front, and the lack of a TOPS data panel on 305 002. The days of the Scotrail Class 305's which operate from Edinburgh to the
East Lothian seaside resort of North Berwick are now numbered following the
building of new class 334 EMU's for Scotrail's Strathclyde operations. In this view, vunerable 305501 passes through the South Lanarkshire countryside at Auchengray with an empty coaching stock (ECS) movement from Glasgow Shield Road to Edinburgh on a sunny Tue 14th September 1999 at 11:24.

Arrivals at Platform 4 of Haymarket station from North Berwick must then
proceed ECS to just before Slateford station, where the next electrictied

at Haymarket for the return service to North Berwick. Having ran ECS from Haymarket,

A shot of 305 501's doorway to see that it has seats just as you enter the door. No need to search for a seat everywhere on the train but if the door opens you'd get a blast of cold air. Picture taken sometime in September 2001.
