The Class 87 is in its last days as a passenger engine as the current diagrams end on 11th December 2004. Pendelinos take over from this
date and the rumour is that a few 87's and coaches will be on standby until spring 2005 (maybe).

Virgin West Coast's 87 023 was named 'Polmadie' after the depot at the depot open day on 16 September 2000. This loco was later dragged dead back to Glasgow Central to work an evening train for London Euston on that day, and appeared ex-works on platform 1 at approximately 1700 hours. Virgin's 87 032 'Caledonian' stabled at Euston. Actually, I don't think it is called Caledonian, cuz that's a class 86, but again I can't quite read the name and it looked as if it said 'Caledonian' from here. Alex Lu, lexcie@innocent.com, http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/ |

Both of these locos will soon not be seen at London Euston as the Pendolinos take over.
However it is the class 90s...in this case 90009...and not the 87s represented here by 87006
that will be the first to go. Virgin has decided to stick to the 87s when loco hauled is required
leaving the 15 class 90s to move over to 'ONE' Anglia services. This picture of the two side by
side was taken at Euston on the 8th April 2004.
