The same Virgin 86 233 Laurence Oliver seen the previous morning at West Coast Traincare depot near Willesden. 27 Jaunary 2000. Taken from the 08.15 fast to Birmingham, which later decided to park on the down fast just before Tring.

This Virgin 86 233 Laurence Oliver seems to like me, here it is pulling past the parked 08.15 on the down slow. Nearly got my head chopped off for this pic, some 87 belted it down the up fast, fortunately I noticed in time, or I’d have got some terrible fright! Mind you, it is pretty difficult to get your head chopped off leaning out of Mk.III windows in high speed territory, especially if you are stopped, because of the large 6’ reserved for the kinematic envelope.
the 86223 laurence oliver crawed towards the tunnel, restricted aspect. this train was also heading for birmingham. i couldn't take the photo sooner because a fast up express had just passed on the in between track and my head nearly got chopped off. i saw the down train coming but the up train completely escaped me. the driver blasted his horn when coming out of the tunnel (as they always do) and that got my attention. as the 86223 drew past, some girl blew a kiss at me (have foto of girl leaning out of window before she did that) Photo by Alex Lu, http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/rail/, lexcie@innocent.com |
Virgin's 86 233 stabled with a short Crosscountry rake at Euston, shot prior to the departure of the Caledonian Sleeper service for Edinburgh and Glasgow. 5 June 2000. Note the high-intensity LED-cluster tail-light fitted to this locomotive. This loco has a name; as do most class 86's and 87's, unfortunately I can't read the plate off the photograph. The 86 245 used to be painted celebrity colours for its naming as the Caledonian. This was quickly reversed, seen here at Coventry in its new guise.

A Virgin train at London's Liverpool Street station, well not quite as 86209 'City of Coventry' has been hired in by Anglia to cover for its own class 86 locos. Its Spring 2002 we think.

See and photograph them whilst you can as Virgin class 86s are hit listed locos and most are likely to be gone by the end of the Summer. This is 86229 'Lions Club International' about to take over for the remainder of its journey to London. The place is Nuneaton and the date July 12th 2003.

86209 'City of Coventry' is now the only Class 86 in Virgin livery running on the network, be it
for Anglia. Monday 29th September 2003 saw the class withdrawn from Virgin West Coast Services as more Pendolinos
entered traffic. This picture was taken however in the Spring of 2002 at Stratford.
