Class 03 Based in Derbyshire, Peak Rail is home to many ex British Rail shunters than any other preserved railway in the UK, with examples from Classes 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 07, 08 & 11. Class 03 shunter 03079 was one of two sent to the Isle of Wight to replace the Class 05 shunter 05001. Both had their roof height reduced to negotiate the tunnel at Ryde. 03079, still in blue livery, remained in service until June 1996, and is seen at Sandown. This picture shows shunter 03079 now in preservation, based on the Derwent Valley Light Railway, Murton, near York. This loco was one of two Class 03s that remained in service on the Isle Of White until 1998, long after the classes withdrawal from use elswhere in the UK.
