Class 158 entering Newport General on 18 February 2004. I find that Newport General is a very attractive and photogenic station with plenty of variety, and even too much freight at times!

gb-158xxx-arrivingBristolParkway01.jpg (157921 bytes)

An unidentified Class 158 DMU arriving at Bristol Parkway station with a Wessex Trains Alphaline service from Gloucester or Swindon.
Note the rake of disused posal train coaches in the background. The canopy in the foreground is that of the fairly new Royal Mail depot constructed only a couple of years before the end of postal services on the railway.

The Alphaline logo on the side of a Wessex Trains Class 158DMU at Bristol Temple Meads. Prior to privatisation the Alphaline brand was used for regional express serves accross the whole of the Provincial sector. Only the first generation private operator Wales and West and its successor companies (Wesex Trains and Wales and Borders) continued to use it. Since Arriva Trains Wales took over the Welsh franchise only Wessex Trains are still using the branding.
