in the Glasgow or Ayr area during the late 1970's, is in fact the

B&KR/SRPS Class 126 DMU.
The Swindon Class 126 DMU's were equipped with two types of coupling,
these being screw couplers (coupling hooks attached to fronts of vehicles
and coupled together via a coupling chain/link) and also American style
knuckle couplers called 'buckeye's'. The Knuckle head could be raised
and lowered. With the knuckle in the 'raised' position the standard
screw couplers could not be used as the knuckle head covered the drawhook
but with the knuckle in the 'lowered' position which cleared the hook,
screw coupling could be used but 'Buckeye' could not.

Class 126, 2-car DMU. Taken from the trailing cab window of DMSL 51017, 51043+51017 approach Kinneil Halt, on the Bo'Ness & Kinneil Railway with the 18:10 Bo'Ness - Birkhill service during the diesel gala weekend on Sun 6th Sept 1998. This was the first year that this unit, following blue asbestos removal during 1992, had run in revenue earning service since then. However, only 51043 was able to carry passengers as 51017 is still an empty shell.
