Class 117. Western region set L422 based at Reading with the Driving Motor Second leading on the down main approaching Southall on a Saturday morning in June 1972. According to the Ian Allan headcode booklet of 1968, 2A52 indicates an ordinary class 2 passenger train that starts and stops somewhere between Paddington & West Drayton; however the destination screen reads Oxford. Set L422 formation is listed as 51402 DMS, 59512 TCL & 51360 MDBS.

Class 117. Western region set L461 with the Driving Motor Brake Second leading on the down main approaching Southall on a Saturday morning in June 1972. Set L461 is not listed in my 1978 RCTS Coaching Stock book or my 1988 Ian Allan and all 42 DMBS units are accounted for with other set numbers. Might it be possible that this was a typo in the set number? There was a Plymouth set P461 but it was formed of class 118 units.

Class 117. Western region set L459 with the Driving Motor Second leading on the up main rushing through Southall on a Saturday morning in June 1972 with a train to Paddington. Note the GWR monograms in the seat supports. Another mystery set as my 1978 & 1988 reference books only list 117 sets in the L series up to L429.
