101691_rochdale_morning.jpg (49546 bytes)

101691 + 101676 at Rochdale, on the 2nd of December 2001. The 101s replaced the normal 142 as it was the S.T.O.R.M (save the Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester line) Mince pie train. It's expected that this day will be the last time a 101 visits the Oldham loop.

bye-101693-stratford-jp.jpg (139934 bytes)

101683 in Strathclyde's Orange and Black livery makes a very unusual sight at Stratford on the 6th January 2004 bound for storage at Shoeburyness. First North Western would have liked to have kept these units running for a further year...on their short runs from Manchester Piccadilly to Marple and Rose Hill they had recently been relatively reliable...but an EEC directive banning the use of halon fire extinguishers from Jan 1 2004 meant their continued use could only be as a result of expensive modifications.
