This is 'Daisy' although not officially named as such, but known as by British rail enthusiasts. Her full number is 101 685 but this unit is very much a Celebrity class 101 DMU. Not only is she painted into the Heritage Green that these units carried in the 1950s & 60s, but she is also the oldest unit running on the network going back to 1957, making her 46 years old. These Metro-Cammell units have developed quite a following in their twilight years and can still be seen today running in and out of Manchester Victoria for First North Western. This picture was taken at the delightfully situated station of Rose Hill in June 2002 shortly before starting her return journey. Naturally 'Jampics' were onboard to enjoy the nostalgic sounds and characteristics of these Leyland engined units from years gone by.

'Daisy' 101685 immediately follows behind 37682 as it takes 5 class 101 units into Temple Mills for
an overnight stay before continuing their journey to the MoD site at Shoeburyness for storage. After over 45
years of service it is hoped that at least one of these units will be preserved and one might go to the National Collection.
The place is Stratford E.London and the date 6th January 2004.

Daisy herself...101685... is pictured here at Manchester Piccadilly in July 2002. After 47 years in service the class 101s are
shortly to be withdrawn so this and other pictures of First Generation DMUs mark this event. Since
repainted into heritage green and getting the unofficial name 'Daisy'...now I wonder where that came from...has achieved celebrtity status
and to the relief of those on the final special run it looks as if she will make it.
