British Class 207/1 DEMU 3 car unit. Unit 207202 at Eastbourne, Sussex in platform 1 on a damp Sunday morning June 6th 1999. This unit is in Connex South-East livery and the motor unit carries nameplates "Brighton Royal Pavilion". Both the driving motor and driving trailer were originally built in 1962 when the unit was classed as 3D (Oxted) but the intermediate trailer is from a class 411 (CEP emu) and is removed during the winter when it runs as a two car unit. Class 411 were built to a wider loading gauge than the 207s and that difference in profile is seen in this photo.

Class 207 DEMU number 207017 is the last surviving unrefurbished Class 207 unit. It has been reduced to two coaches, with the intermediate trailer placed in store. It is seen at Uckfield during the 1998 Uckfield Line Gala (24th May).

Class 207 DEMU no. 207201 stands at Ashford awaiting departure for Hastings. Three of these units are currently in use on this line; their intermediate trailers have been removed and replaced by Class 411 trailer vehicles of a slightly different profile. This view shows the DMBSO vehicle, distinguishable from the DTSO by the black triangle painted on the front.

This view of 207201, also taken at Ashford, shows the DTSO vehicle. Although DEMU's have the same type of traction motor as Southern EMU stock, they cannot run on third rail power, as they lack both shoegear and EMU-type control equipment.

207201 is seen at Hastings in this view; the slightly wider intermediate trailer, which has earned the units the nickname "Maggots", is just discernable. The width of Class 207 stock is somewhere between that of standard stock and Hastings stock.

This interior view of the DMBSO vehicle of 207201 shows the 2+2 seating necessitated by the unit's narrow profile; standard stock of this design is fitted with 2+3 seating.
