From here you can see 43059 departing St. Pancras from platforms 8. One may also notice the temporary track bed (up to the platform edges), panels and even the permanent electrified lines on the far right. Anyone who has seen the throat before the CTRL works came in will know how different it looks today - and obviously the station has changed as well. Taken seconds after the other picture, this time you can see some of the Mark III coaches being dragged

Finally, you can see the back of the HST with 43104 bringing up the rear. Funnily enough, even though
Class 43 power cars have a design speed of 125mph (the UK long-distance standard), linespeed on the
Midland Main Line is a mere 110mph. And one more thing - I also forgot to mention the crane in the background. Seconds later you hear a Paxman Valenta screeching like hell. Yes - it's the southbound MML HST. You
may notice there isn't much of a blur, considering it's passing by at (this is a pure guess) 75mph. It
definitely was not 110mph, I've seen these beasts pass Harpenden at up to 110mph and I know what that
looks like.

The new livery on the Midland Mainline, with the rebranding of the MML services nearly complete, this unti is almost standard, apart from the rear power which is in Teal - but I won't tell if you don't!

Class 60s have become increasingly difficult to see down here in the S.E. and
the last thing you want is a fast approaching HST when one...in this case 60015...
puts in an appearence at Harpenden as it did on the 23rd March 2005.

The HST was always going to beat the 'Tug' as class 60s are known as, but you can see just how close
we came to being completely 'bowled out' by the fast approaching Midland
Mainline train as it sped through Harpenden on the 23rd March 2005.
