From here you can see 43059 departing St. Pancras from platforms 8.
One may also notice the temporary track bed (up to the platform edges), panels and even the permanent electrified lines on the far right. Anyone who has seen the throat before the CTRL works came in will know how different it looks today - and obviously the station has changed as well.

HST_departure_from_St__Pancras_no_4.jpg (144032 bytes)

Finally, you can see the back of the HST with 43104 bringing up the rear. Funnily enough, even though Class 43 power cars have a design speed of 125mph (the UK long-distance standard), linespeed on the Midland Main Line is a mere 110mph.

And one more thing - I also forgot to mention the crane in the background.

MML_HST_new_livery_speeding_through_LAP.jpg (59230 bytes)

Seconds later you hear a Paxman Valenta screeching like hell. Yes - it's the southbound MML HST. You may notice there isn't much of a blur, considering it's passing by at (this is a pure guess) 75mph. It definitely was not 110mph, I've seen these beasts pass Harpenden at up to 110mph and I know what that looks like.

Class 60s have become increasingly difficult to see down here in the S.E. and the last thing you want is a fast approaching HST when one...in this case 60015... puts in an appearence at Harpenden as it did on the 23rd March 2005.
