HST First-Class/Restaurant/Buffet Trailer (TFRB) of GNER, seen at London-King's Cross, awaiting departure to Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
This trailer has a galley, with a buffet counter. There is also a small First-Class saloon, used as a restaurant, available to passengers travelling in both classes. HST Standard-Class/Guard Trailer (TGS) of GNER, seen at London-King's Cross, awaiting departure to Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
This trailer has a service compartment for the guards, at the end nearest to the power car, on the left. Originally, doors were blue with the red stripe, as on the rest of the trailer. GNER is now to paint them all in red, so as to meet the expectations of the Health & Safety Executive, which is keen on having visible doors... The door for the Guard compartment has retained its original colours, as it is not to be used by passengers. This pair of GNER HSTs...that are used on the far north routes beyond Edinburgh where there are no wires...conveniently wait
in platforms one and two at London Kings Cross enabling their different lights to be compared. The new arrangement on the left
and the original from the mid 1970's on the right. Pictured on the 11th April 2006.

For a train that first started to appear in the mid-1970s the High Speed Train or HST is now well over 25 years
old but still looks the part in 2003. Noisey and at times a little smokey they travel at speeds of up to 125 MPH.
This GNER example is just starting out on a journey to northern Scotland, a distance of over 500 miles.

HISTORY. GNER will soon become history when National Express take over the running of trains on the ECML to the North
and Scotland in December. This HST power car pictured at Kings Cross on the 9th November 2007 still retains its GNER branding.
