Virgin Trains Class 57/3 Virgin Trains Class 57/3, 57307 'Lady Penelope', awaits it's next turn of duty at Birmingham New Street on Mon 28th May 2007 at 19:58. This locomotive was rebuilt from Class 47/0 locomotive, 47225, and fitted with a General Motors 12645F3B engine of 2050kW (2750hp) at 954rpm.

Virgin's new THUNDERBIRD loco 57302 is appropriately named after one of that programmes famous characters VIRGIL TRACY. Give the loco a truly eyecatching livery and you have got a class of loco that, when you add bright sunshine are going to result in some colourful pictures. This one was taken at Nuneaton on a glorious Summer's day the 12th July 2003.

Virgin Thunderbird loco 57304 has already been called to rescue this train as it waits for the all clear to enter London Euston on the 12 July 2003.

Virgin have decided to name all their 12 re-engined class 57 3 locos after characters in the famous Thunderbird puppet series. 57308 which is pictured at Nuneaton on a very sunny July 12th 2003 has the name 'TIN TIN'. Rescue locos in the UK have for some time been refered to as THUNDERBIRDS so these a very appropriate names for the locos.

57308 'TIN TIN' returns to Nuneaton where it will come off and electric traction take over. The train is a Virgin West Coast Service bound for London Euston and the date is Saturday 12th July 2003.

47851 from 1964 and 57304 the re-engined version face each other at London
Euston on the 6th January 2005. The front appearence of the 57 though has been
dramatically changed by the addition of a special coupling to enable
the loco to attach itself quickly a Pendolino.
