Now this REALLY is an unusual sight...and one that may well not be be repeated! GBRf would probably have used 47840 on this but that 'went pop' a few weeks ago. With no class 66 available 57604 was hired in for this move. 57 6s are mostly employed on the the First Great Western sleeper services between London Paddington and Penzance and are only rarely seen on other workings during the day. This is the first time one has been put on a scrap move and not only that but this class has never been seen on this stretch of line before, the London Tilbury and Southend line! The train is pictured as it passes through Benfleet on its journey from Shoeburyness to Newport on the 1st March 2006. Incidently the loco carries the small triangular headboard 'Kit-Kat on Tour' ...that being the drivers nickname... adding one further note of interest.

Having not seen a 57 6 on the move before I now see one twice in two days...be it the same loco! 57604 is pictured running through Hackney Wick with 47840 'North Star' in tow which is being taken to Brush at Loughborough for we believe a replacement power unit. The date is March 1st 2006.
