Class 56s are very much threatened locos that are now down we think to well below 20 out of a total of 135.
Although not the most reliable design initially they have performed better in recent years. The reduction
in heavy freight from coal mines to power stations and loss of steel traffic has also influenced their decline. They are not likely to continue in service
with EWS after the end of March 2004.
With the news that 56062 was on the 'Plasmor' we had to set off to picture one of the last occasions this would happen. Pictured at the entrance to Bow Yard awaiting the 'off' on the 18th February 2004.
