Class 56 Over the first weekend of March 2007, the Nene Valley Railway held their 'Spring Diesel Gala' event which seen 3 preserved Class 56's in action on the railway. In this view, taken on Sat 3rd March 2007 at 08:03, Loadhaul liveried 56003 runs out of the yard at Wansford as Railfreight 'Red Stripe' liveried 56098 idles in front of the main shed while emitting a smokescreen of exhaust.

EWS Class 56. 56010, one of only a handful of the Romanian built examples left in service, stands at Motherwell TMD on sunday 25th July 1999.

EWS Class 56. Romanian built 56010 is seen stabled at Ayr T&RSMD on saturday 31st July 1999. At the time of writing only 7 of the 30 (56001-56030) Romanian built Class 56's remain in service while 11 have been scrapped.

Class 56 Data Panel. This view shows the data panel for a Class 56 locomotive as applied to 56010 when seen at Ayr T&RSMD on saturday 31st July 1999. It lists the weight, brake force, Electric Train Heating Index (blank if not fitted), Routa Availability and maximum speed of this locomotive and is current for all Class 56's. Note the bodyside corrosion to the right of the panel.

This is one of the last remaining Romanian built 'Grids' still in service with EWS. Of the 135 class 56s built the first 30 were manufactured in Romania.
It is also one of the few locos that are currently running in BR Blue livery so it always makes a welcome sight.

This took us by surprise as it was hidden from view but a young James
moved quickly and took this picture of 56004...the only time we saw it running...at Newport
S.Wales in August 1998.

56006 became the second Romanian built class 56 to return to Rail Blue and is seen
here on the Ripple Lane to Immingham paper train at Stratford in 2002.

56007 was on of the last Romanian built class members to remain in traffic.

56019 was the last loco to run in the popular 'Red Stripe' Railfreight livery. One of the first 30
class 56s bulit in Romania it is seen here at Stratford E.London in October 1998.
