D9000 which later became 55022 is the first Deltic after the blue test loco. It was also the first diesel to be returned to the main line after withdrawal. Unfortunately the ownerning group got into financial difficulties and the loco has been languishing at Hornsey Depot since the Autumn of 2002. However the good news is that it has now been bought and although it is going to take a while it will now be restored for a second time and may well eventually be seen on the main line again. 40145 is doing the pushing at it passes Harringay station on the 25th January 2005.

Loco combinations don't come much more unusual than this! The only main line class 40 40145 and Deltic 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' slowly move away from Hornsey Depot on the 25th January 2005.

Away they go! 40145 sets off on its journey north by first having to cross the East Coast Main Line before taking the Hertford loop. The big green diesel is of course D9000 which is heading for its new home and restoration. The date is January 25th 2005.

A second shot of D9000 at Reading. A large crowed of rail fans can be seen on the platform, many of them had travelled on the train. Within seconds of arriving the loco was uncoupled and rushed off to the depot. On the platform where the photo was taken, security guards were present to keep the many photographs back from the tracks.

This unusual sighting at Stratford took place when Anglia hired in D9000 'Royal Scots Grey' on a regular service train one Sunday in August 2002. Deltics are surely one of the most impressive looking diesels and since they are powered by 2 Napier 'marine' engines have a very different and distinct sound about them.
