Fragonset-liveried Class 47 diesel locomotive 47703 Hermes in the siding adjacent to platform 2 at Bishops Lydeard station on the West Somerset Railway during the Spring Steam Gala. The travelled to the WSR at the back of a special charter from London Paddington hauled by SR Bulleid ‘Battle of Britain’ 4-6-2 steam locomotive No 34067 Tangmere, in case of problems on the mainline, but it was not called into action.

Following on not far behind steamer 73096 is Fragonsets 47703 reminding us that 47s can be
a little 'claggy' at times. It is not unusual for a diesel to follow a 'kettle' in case of any
problems on route. We are not complaining...two for the price of one! In view of the fact that there have
been one or two steam failures recently its a wise pre-caution. Pictured at Broxbourne on June 12th 2004.

Virgin Trains (XC)/Fragonset Class 47/7. 47709 wants it's next call of duty at Saltley Depot, Birmingham on Sun 13th June 1999. This loco is one of the original 12 (47701-47712) Class 47/7's that were converted back in the early 1980's for use on the Edinburgh - Glasgow push-pull passenger services and are therefor equipped with an earlier form of TDM (push-pull) equipment conpared with the later RES convertions (47721-47793) converted in the 1990's.

47712 stands at Manchester Piccadilly while at the head of an
unidentified Virgin XC service on Saturday 18th April 1998.

If you get advance information you can still be lucky enough to see a class 47
out on the main line. This one is Fragonset's 47712 which is approaching
West Brompton Station W.London with a charter. The date is Saturday 3rd April 2004. Just two EWS
class 47s now remain in service for assisting Virgin.

47703 brings its train off the sharp bend from the N.London Line into Stratford with an ECS move for
the following days charter from Norwich. The date is June 3rd 2005.
