Now when the oldest class 47 in service appears...a veteran of 41 years...its always worth a picture.
47811 might not be on top link jobs but it is still out there working and in this case
it is seen bringing the Wagn stock move through Harringay on the 25th January 2005.

This is how the Wagn stock move looks...a class 47 at each end with in this
case two class 317s in the middle sandwiched between a pair of barrier
coaches. Having just climbed the viaduct to cross the ECML after coming off
the Gospel Oak to Barking Line they will now run north into nearby Hornsey
Depot before heading back out to Bedford with further units. Harringay is
the location and the date January 25th 2005.

Assisting on the rear is currently the oldest class 47 in service
47811 which as we thought is now helping out Freightliner Heavy Haul.
This is the WAGN stock move and is seen at Crouch Hill on the 18th
January 2004.

We still ocassionally see some class 47 action at Stratford and this was the
case on the 22nd Nonvember 2004 when Cotswold Rail's 47813 was in charge of the
1200 departure from London Liverpool Street to Norwich.

Although a number of 47 8s have been hired in for some time now by Freightliner Heavy Haul they do not
very often appear on Intermodal services and ex-FGW 47816 is a particularly unusual loco to be allocated
one. This is the LM93 Lawley Street to Ipswich liner that is seen heading through Hackney Wick towards Stratford
on the 23rd November 2005.

Regular use of class 47s by First Great Western has now ended so a special
Farewell Tour...Paddington to Penzance and return was arranged. Seen just after
their arrival back in London is 47815 and 47811 on December 11th 2004.

47815 'Abertawe Landore' was put into this well regarded 1960s green livery earlier this year. It is seen at Paddington Station
having brought the FGW farewell 47 tour back into London on the 11th December 2004. We understand the loco now has a future
with Riviera Trains.

47811 and 47815 nose-to-nose at Paddington Station London having provided the motive power for
the farewell FGW 47 tour on the 11th December 2004. Only a few days later 47811 was called up
to power the sleepers though.

D1719 now 47811 is we believe the oldest class 47 in service but quite what
future it has after having partnered 47815 on the FGW class 47 farewell
tour on 4th December 2004 we are not totally sure...although we have since heard that it
will be joining Freightliner Heavy Haul.

Less its First Great Western markings 47830 runs into Nuneaton on a scorching Summers day
in 2003 having been used on the regular weekend drags that were taking place. This loco is still
active the following winter.

47832 'Tamar' is in First Great Western colours and is seen at Paddington staion in 2001
as it waits to depart with its West Country bound train. It is still in action in March 2004,
although not maybe for much longer as FGW goes over to the new 57 '6s' for their sleeper services.

This is the original Great Western livery following privatisation before the 'First'
group took over. The place is London Paddington and the year is 1999 but the identity of the loco is not known.
Why can't they put numbers on the front at both ends...like they do in DB land and elsewhere?
