EWS 37 521 stabled at Glasgow Central, 6 June 2000. Not a lot to say about this loco. Class 37/5s are not often seen, these are refurbished locos with the main generator replaced by an alternator, but no ballast weights. Alex Lu, lexcie@innocent.com, http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/ |

With EWS class 47s and 56s shortly to go there have been alarming rumours...from an enthusiast's viewpoint...
of a significant reduction in the class 37 fleet as well, currently just under 50. This might leave just the 37 4s which have train
heating and can therefore be used on passenger services as well as freight. Hopefully it will not be quite this drastic but the sight here of 37684 'Peak National Park'
on an engineering train at Kensington Olympia on the 19th February 2004 will not doubt become an increasingly rare one.

We were informed that we were not allowed to take photographs at this station...Highbury & Islington...
so instead of being in just the right place for 37669 on the now almost legendary Hoo Junction
to Temple Mills Departmental we ended up on the wrong platform. We have taken pictures in a number
of different European countries this year and not ONCE were we approached! Class 37s are not easy locos to see
these days with EWS having only about 30 still in service but around half of these are 37 4s which
seldom find their way to the London/S.E.area. This particular train however is often a good bet
and has even been double-headed recently. The opportunity to picture one of these weather beaten
'growlers' whilst you still can is not to be missed especially when you have never seen the
loco in question before. The date by the way was the 2nd September 2004.
