Under the Perpignan-Figueres HSL project, this forecourt is to become a large pedestrian area.

Perpignan_b1.jpg (63621 bytes)

Station of Perpignan:

Tracks, north end. These 2 tracks (A and B) are currently the busiest ones, as they accommodate all the traffic to/from Spain.
Once the HSL to Figueres and Barcelona has reached completion, faster passenger international traffic will use other tracks (D, E and F, further right, off-pic).

Perpignan_c1.jpg (64338 bytes)

Station of Perpignan:

Tracks, South end.
One can notice the signal box (PRS) on the right, which dates back to the electrification of Narbonne-Portbou (1981/1982).
Under the Perpignan-Figueres HSL project, this signal box is to be flattened and replaced with something more up-to-date (PAI).

Perpignan_d1.jpg (65272 bytes)

Station of Perpignan:

Tracks, South end. This pic was made from Platform 3, which is currently confined to TER traffic to/from Villefranche-Vernet les Bains (for "Le Train Jaune"). Further left, one can notice sidings, for TGV and TER formations upon turnaround, and the Parcels station.

Under the Perpignan-Figueres HSL project,

• Platform 3 will be remodelled and extended to 400m, while a 4th platform with an extra track (F) will see light just left. Both these platforms will actually accommodate traffic using the International HSL.
• a brand-new, larger station building will stand further left, with offices and a new Coach station, in lieu of the remaining sidings and the Parcels station.

Perpignan_e1.jpg (61830 bytes)

Station of Perpignan:

Tracks, seen looking towards Spain. This pic was made from Platform 3, currently confined to TER traffic to/from Villefranche-Vernet les Bains (for "Le Train Jaune").
One can notice the dual-track line to Cerbčre and Portbou (left) and the single track diverging to Villefranche (right), off which the HSL will branch 6km further, in Le Soler.

Under the Perpignan-Figueres HSL project, this area is to be substantially remodelled, so that TGV-AVE services can enter the Villefranche line at 60km/h instead of 30km/h.

Perpignan_f1.jpg (63235 bytes)

Station of Perpignan:

Those tracks under construction are the new sidings, which are to accommodate French and Spanish passenger formations upon turnaround. These new sidings are located right next to the Perpignan-Villefranch line (right), shortly after branching off the Narbonne-Portbou main line.

The Villefranche line is also to be dual-tracked over 6km , until Le Soler, where the HSL will originate.

These works are actually the very first step carried out on the part of RFF under the Perpignan-Figueres HSL project.
