Modern station building (for the Upper concourse), seen in the background from the Pont de Sète.
The whole of this floor was erected from scratch in 1981/1982, in an attempt to relieve historical premises and to increase the amount of parking-lots. Platforms are located right underneath. Montpellier. 17th April 2004. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |

The whole of this floor was erected from scratch in 1981/1982, in an attempt to relieve historical premises (right).
With only 6 tracks served by 4 rather narrow platforms, one can see that Montpelliers is one of the most cramped major stations in France. While it had originally been planned to bridge the gap in the foreground (i.e. to extend the Upper concourse until the Pont de Lattes), it is now understood that the station is to be relocated by some 500m further West... Upper concourse.
This is the shopping area. Platforms are located right underneath. This floor was built in 1981/1982, extended once (1989) and remodelled twice (1992/1993 and 2000/2001). The latest remodelling has released an appreciable amount of room, without altering the core structure.. Montpellier. 17th April 2004. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |
