Southern Portal for the Marseilles HSL Tunnel (7,836 m, the longest French domestic railway tunnel).
At this stage, HSL tracks are already under 25kV-50Hz AC. Conversely, adjacent conventional tracks (1 on each side) feature 1.5kV DC.

Southern Portal for the Marseilles HSL Tunnel (7,836 m, the longest French domestic railway tunnel).
This tunnel runs through the Range of l'Estaque, which segregates Marseilles from its hinterland. At this stage, HSL tracks are already under 25kV-50Hz AC. Conversely, adjacent conventional tracks (1 on each side) feature 1.5kV DC.

Tuileries Jct, where the Marseilles-Paris HSL (viz. the 2 inner tracks) branches off the conventional line (i.e. the outer tracks).
This pic is looking towards Marseilles. The Southern Portal for the HSL Tunnel is located further right, off-pic. One can guess the location of the voltage change-over on the HSL tracks (1.5kV AC-25kV DC), right in the middle of this pic...

View on Lapalud chord on the LGV Méditerranée, as seen from TGV 9826 (Brussel Zuid - Nice Ville). This track of the chord is in the direction HSL -> classic PLM line (for Montélimar and Valence Ville). Eurostar trains to and from Avignon Centre use the tracks in the other direction (off-pic). 14/07/2007. Photo by : Denis Verheyden (msts_2@hotmail.com) |
