France – Saintes Depot: Little changed from the days when it had an allocation of dozens of steam locomotives, Saintes depot today supports a small fleet of diesel railcars that handle the local traffic in the surrounding area of the Charente Maritime. This view could equally have shown 140C, 230G and 040TA – only the coaling plant and other steam age equipment has been removed. Oh yes, the buildings have been cleaned too! 16 April 2006 Roger Griffiths; jrcs@blueyonder.co.uk |
France – Saintes Depot (repair shop): Attached to Saintes depot was a large locomotive repair shop, served by a traverser, that installation surviving in good condition today, but seemingly not now in use. 16 April 2006 Roger Griffiths; jrcs@blueyonder.co.uk |
France – Saintes Depot (water tower): Also still surviving today at Saintes depot is the concrete water still showing the painted “SAINTES” sign on its side. It is not known if the tower remains in use. 16 April 2006 Roger Griffiths; jrcs@blueyonder.co.uk |
