Interior of a TGV PSE set (Mk1 Refurb), part of the "Bourgogne-Franche Comté" fleet (viz. for Paris-Dijon/Chalon sur Saône/Besançon).
Bar area.
Upon refurbishment and unlike the remainder of PSE sets, this limited fleet (9 units) retained its original Bar (1981), i.e. rather cramped.

This is the 2nd-class saloon adjacent to the Bar-area. As the latter has retained its original, cramped layout, the former is much larger than on any other kind of PSE set (24 seats instead of 16). 18th May 2005.

Seats are very close to those of TGV Réseau sets, while ambiance closely mirrors that of Corail Plus/Nouvelle Décoration cars. Unlike Mk2 Refurbishment (1999/2001), Mk1 Refurbishment (1996/1998) features 14 rows (i.e. 1 more) per typical 2nd-class car, as on TGV Réseau sets. Metz-ville. 16th June 2004.

Coach 4 (Bar/2nd-class) of a Mk1 Refurbished TGV PSE set, diagrammed on TGV 5148 (Nice Ville-Metz Ville).
Unlike Mk2 Refurbishment, Mk1 Refurbishment has retained a full segregation between the Bar and the adjacent saloon. These 16 seats arranged in bays are still reservable (unlike Mk2s, again). Yet, they are actually the very last ones to be allocated, meaning that they can often be used as a "dining" area. Metz-ville. 16th June 2004.

This counter was re-styled in the late-80s (1987/1990), under a light overhaul, in line with TGV Atlantique standards. Mk1 Refurbishment (1996/1998) has left the whole Bar area untouched. Metz-ville. 16th June 2004.

Bar car (Coach 4) of a Mk1 Refurbished TGV PSE set, diagrammed on TGV 5148 (Nice Ville-Metz Ville).
The counter was re-styled in the late-80s (1987/1990), under a light overhaul, in line with TGV Atlantique standards. The snack area was also fitted under that program, at the expense of the adjacent 2nd-class saloon, meaning that the bar was originally very cramped, with just the counter and very little room around... Mk1 Refurbishment (1996/1998) has left the whole Bar area untouched. Metz-ville. 16th June 2004.

This is actually the former vestibule. Upon refurbishment, it was closed to make room for an enlarged staff compartment (on the right), marked as "Point Information" (overhead), where passengers may (at least on paper) seek information from the guard. Conversely, Mk1 Refurbished PSE sets have retained a full-fledged vestibule in Coach 4. Marseille-St Charles. 3rd October 2004.
