TGV PSE set No 88, seen at the workshops of Villeneuve.

This set was taken out of revenue service in 1985 and rebuilt with new synchronous motors, so as to test those for the forthcoming TGV Atlantique fleet.
Only 5 trailers out of the original 8 remained, while end-trailers also lost their motors.

A TGV Atlantique-style blue stripe also replaced the original grey.

on 12th December 1988, this set ran at up to 408.4km/h, thence outspeeding the World record of ICE-V (406.9 km/h on 1st May 1988), although no certification ever came...

In 1989, it was eventually rebuilt as tri-voltage (for Paris-Lausanne/Bern) and renumbered 118.
