One of the most unexpected USI car ever:
2nd-class/driving-car "Cyclope" USI car (B10tx) of SNCF.
This is actually a standard B10t USI car, fitted with a cramped cab in 1972, so as to run USI formations in pull-push operation on Paris-Orléans-Tours-Poitiers, using BB-9533 and 9535, at 160Km/h.
This experiment paved the way for pull-push Corail formations (using B6Dux driving-cars and adapted Class 9200), which ran on that line from 1978 until 1987. Paris-Austerlitz. 1980

2nd-class (Open-room/compartments) USI car (B4t4) (50 87 28-37 009-1), seen in the the Death Corridor.
This car is part to the middle batches of USI cars (mid-60s), and is therefore mounted on Y24C bogies, restricted to 140 km/h.
Originally built as a 1st-class car (A4t4), it was declassified and rebuilt to B4t4 in the late-70s.

1st/2nd-class open-room/compartment USI car (A2t2B2t3).
This car belongs to the last orders for USI cars (1970-1973), as it is mounted on Y28C bogies. It was originally arranged as a 1st class-only car, with 2 small saloons at both ends and 4 compartments in-between. In the mid-80s, half of it was declassified, which made this car the most diverse type running in France, with Open-room and compartment seating available in both classes. It is reportedly due for refurbishment. Dijon-ville. 27th December 2003. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |

2nd-class (Open-room/compartment) USI car (B4t5½) (ex-A4t4), diagrammed on TER 96501 (Lyon Perrache-Genève Cornavin).
This is one of the 2 end-saloons (22 seats each). As B4t5½t cars were among the last A4t4 cars to be declassified (mid-80s), their saloons feature seats similar to those of declassified TEE cars (Inox and Grand Confort), rather than B10t, older-style seats, as was conversely the case on B4t4 cars (declassified earlier, now all withdrawn). This 2nd-class saloon is identical to that of dual-class A2t2B2t3 cars. Genève-Cornavin. 2nd November 2004. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |
