First-/Second-class UIC (compartment) car of SNCF (A4B5), seen in Strasburg, on a TER service to Sarrebourg.
Up to the early-80s, this car was arranged on a 1st-class only basis (A9). It was then partly declassified, as newly-delivered Corail cars were ousting older stock from top-tier services. Strasbourg-ville. 23rd December 2003. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |

1st-class UIC-Y car (A9), in red "Capitole" livery.
This car got a special livery by Paul Arzens in 1967/1968, and fitted with magnetic brakes, with a view to upgrading Rapide "Capitole" (Paris Austerlitz <--> Toulouse Matabiau) to 200km/h. It retained its special condition until the late-70s, so as to run peak services at 200km/h on Paris-Toulouse/Bordeaux. Paris-Austerlitz. October 1975.

1st-class UIC-Y car (A9), seen on Rapide 51 (Paris Gare de Lyon ---> Ventimiglia).

Compartments feature the usual 2nd-class UIC bench-seats, arranged in 1+2+1 each... B10 layout also has an obvious impact on legroom, compared to B9 or A4B5 (= ex-A9) cars. Lyon-Perrache. 23rd September 2004. P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |

Originally built as an A7D (Luggage-van/1st-class), this car was declassified in the-mid 80s, as newly-delivered Corail cars were displacing older fleets to regional services. In 2003, it went through a light, yet pretty nice overhaul to run on "Intercités" services of TER PACA.
