InoxPBA_B.jpg (127869 bytes)

SNCF Inox-PBA carriage 2nd class in EuroCity «Étoile du Nord» Amsterdam - Paris (1991). These cars were originally all 1st class, they were built for TEEs between Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. As these trains were converted to EuroCity, some of the cars received a 2nd class interior (2+2 seating), the TRANS EUROP EXPRESS inscriptions were removed and a green stripe replaced the red stripe above the windows. Today these trains have been replaced by THALYS.

InoxPBA_BD.jpg (89778 bytes)

SNCF Inox-PBA generator car in EuroCity «Étoile du Nord» Amsterdam - Paris (1991). Due to the type of air conditioning system in these cars, a generator car was needed, which also has a luggage compartment and some passenger seats. Even though the original 1st class seats were retained, the class designation was later removed and the seats could be used by 2nd class passengers. As these cars were usually at the end of the train, they had a rounded roof end. Today these trains are replaced by THALYS.

InoxPBA_WR_i.jpg (95276 bytes)

TEE car of the "Inox PBA" series in the EuroCity «Étoile du Nord» (Amsterdam - Paris). Interior of restaurant car. Each 1st class car had folding tables and could be used as restaurant. From the kitchen in the dining-car, meals were served (by Wagons-Lits) in two or three carriages - similar to the «couplages» in pre-war Pullman trains. The price for a full menu was 200 FRF. The meal service in today's THALYS trains on this route is only rudimentary compared to this. Photo taken in 1991.

Trans Europ Express - the name, the prestige, the period! The days of the TEE are over now, and to see a genuine TEE coach, you would have to travel to the French Railway Museum in Mulhouse, France, where they keep one of the charming Inox coaches used on this service.
