VR - Finland Diesel-hauled passenger trains are now very rare in Finland. As far as I know only the night train Kolari-Helsinki is hauled by 2 diesel locomotives between Kolari and Oulu. Diesel locomotive Dr16 2806 plus an unidentified second are seen before departure from Kolari. Kolari, 16-06-2019 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |

A Dr16 class locomotive is waiting for the green light to take over the passenger cars brought from Helsinki by a Sr1 and to take them to Rovaniemi in May 1996. It is necessary to change from electric to diesel, since the line from Oulu to Lapland is not electrified. This class has an "official" nickname "Iso Vaalee" (Big Blonde).
