Lerida station, seen at the outset of its remodelling process, under the Madrid-Lerida HSL project.
A provisional platform had already been fitted, as a counterpart for the temporary closure of the tracks closest to the station building. Lerida. Spring 2002. Lerida station, seen under remodelling.
While the new, "all-in-waves" canopy was taking shape, quite many works were still to be done... One can obviously feel the style-contrast between the building of 1928 and the canopy. Passenger traffic was confined to 3 provisional tracks, opposite the station building... Lerida. December 2002. Lerida station, seen under remodelling.
While the new, "all-in-waves" canopy was taking shape, quite many works were still to be done... 2 UIC-gauge tracks had seemingly been completed (including the 25kV AC OHLE), but platforms were still far from completion. The new, "all-in-waves" canopy was becoming more obvious, but full completion was still much ahead... Lerida. February 2003. Photo by Sadic (sadic@tranvia.org) (Acknowledgements), from Tranvia.org Posting and comment by P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr). |

The new, "all-in-waves" canopy had already become quite impressive, but full completion was still much ahead... One can again feel the contrast between the canopy and the station building... Lerida. Lerida station, seen under remodelling.
The new, "all-in-waves" canopy was still under construction, yet nearing completion. Passenger traffic was still confined to provisional tracks, opposite the station building... The train seen on this pic is Talgo 623 "Finisterre-Covadonga" Barcelona-A Coruńa or Vigo/Gijon. Lerida. 27th April 2003. Front wall of Lérida-Pirineos/Lleida-Pírineus.
This side has retained most of its original aspect of 1928, unlike the plateform-side, which has gone through far-reaching works under the Madrid-Lerida HSL project. Lleida-Pírineus. Spring 2003. Station of Lérida-Pirineos/Lleida-Pírineus.
This AVE-100 set has just arrived from Madrid, on a promotional service. These were to introduce VIPs to the new Madrid-Lerida HSL before the intended beginning of revenue operations, but RENFE was forced to postpone most of them indefinitely, owing to serial technical failures. This part of the "all-in-waves" canopy was already well in place, but the whole station remodelling was still far from completion. Lleida-Pírineus. February 2003. Station of Lérida-Pirineos/Lleida-Pírineus, at some time after the beginning of revenue operations on the Madrid-Lerida HSL.
One can appreciate the complexity of the "all-in-waves" canopy... and doubt on how one will maintain all that... On the left, an Altaria service with Talgo 7 cars, using the UIC-gauge tracks (for the HSL). On the right, a Refurbished Class 448 used on "Catalunya-Expres" services (for Barcelona). One can also spot a Class 593 (for la Pobla de Segur) further away. Lleida-Pírineus. October 2003. Station of Lérida-Pirineos/Lleida-Pírineus,
This concourse is an extension built under the remodelling program. One can spot the original building (1928) in the background. Lleida-Pírineus. May 2004. Photo by [ea] (ea@rojosangre.net) (Acknowledgements), from Tranvia.org Posting and comment by P.L.Guillemin (plguillemin@yahoo.fr) |
Station of Lérida-Pirineos/Lleida-Pírineus,
This pic is looking towards the "all-in-waves" canopy, whose complex structure is very much in evidence here. Tracks in the foreground are built to Iberic-gauge (with 3kV DC OHLE). Standard-gauge tracks (with 25kV AC OHLE) are located in the background, closer to the station building. Lleida-Pírineus. 08th May 2004.
