Dual system (Talgo and CAF) gauge-changer in Olmedo, on the Madrid-Valladolid/Medina del Campo forthcoming HSL.

This gauge-changer was built in 2002 in an attempt to accommodate both Talgo-RD and CAF-BRAVA competing systems.

Each system is mounted on a moving structure, so that one can easily shift them. Unfortunately, that dual-system gauge-changer does not allow for the operation of mixed formations, viz. using both systems in the same formation...

The system ready for use on this pic is that of Talgo. CAF-BRAVA system stands folded on the right.

Both systems will be used at 15kph by variable-gauge trainsets, although these have been cleared for 30kph.

2002.
