The refurbishment took place in 1999, and was focused on the replacement of original bench-seats with (2nd-hand) Mainline seats (with reversible backrests). Old-fashioned curtains (probably cascaded from Class 432 or 444) were also added.
Interiors have otherwise retained their original condition (panels, flooring, vestibules, luggage-racks). Original windows have also remained, as this fleet is devoid of air-con.
