AVE-120 001 set, seen at the CAF Factory in Beasain.
Those sets are built by CAF and Alstom. Thanks to the BRAVA gauge-changing system developed by CAF, these units will run on Mainline services combining HSLs (1435mm-4ft8in) with conventional lines (1668mm-5ft6in). These will probably branded "Altaria". They will have a top speed of 250kph-157mph under 25kV-50Hz AC and 220kph-136mph under 3kV DC. Unlike TRD 598s, they will be devoid of the SIBI tilting-system of CAF. The livery seems to be a compromise between the applications of the "Grandes Lineas" livery to brand-new Talgo 7 and refurbished Talgo 4 stock. Beasain (Gipuzkoa, Euzkadi). 15th July 2004. AVE-120 001 set, seen at the CAF Factory in Beasain.
This time, livery is complete, and the "Grandes Lineas" logo is also there, which confirms that this fleet will not run on AVE services whatsoever. While carbody profile smacks of TRD-598s, general outlook has something of an Acela... July 2004. This time, livery is complete, and the "Grandes Lineas" logo is also there, which confirms that this fleet will not run on AVE services whatsoever. One can notice some interesting technical data in the lower right-hand corner: top speed of 250 kph (under 25kV and on UIC-gauge only), and fleet to run in Spain only, in the absence of BRAVA gauge-changers at northern border points as well as of catenary on links to Portugal... This time, livery is complete, and the "Grandes Lineas" logo is also there, which confirms that this fleet will not run on AVE services whatsoever. One can spot a sharp resemblance with TRD-598s concerning carbody profile, particularly on intermediate trailers, while end-faces have something of an Acela... One can also guess the location of the Cafeteria area, with higher windows. July 2004. AVE-120 002, seen leaving the CAF factory in Beasain, awaiting to be coupled with the missing cab-car.
Carbody profile is well in evidence here, and bears some resemblance with those of TRD-598s and of the AGV Prototype "Elisa".

Comboio AVE- 120 001, parqueado em Beasain, junto a fabrica da CAF onde sao construidos. Ouvi dizer que sao pendulares. Train AVE- 120 001, parked at Beasain, near the factory CAF were they are built. I heard something about this train is a tilting one. Train AVE- 120 001, parked at Beasain, near the factory CAF were they are built. They have a design a litle bit escaping to american ACELA. Maybe one day Renfe could electrify all line until Portuguese border and put this trains making Lisbon - Madrid - Barcelona. For those who don't know Portugal have 25Kv @ 50hz...
