AVE 100-100 aus Madrid überquert die Tajo-Brücke bei Algodor, während im Tal der Regionalexpress von Toledo nach Madrid zu sehen ist, 11.08.2000.
AVE 100-000 is crossing the bridge over the Tajo river. In the valley: Regional express from Toledo to Madrid. In reality the two trains didn't pass at the same time. For this picture I merged two photos. Photos, Scan and Photomontage: Bertram Wlasak, E-Mail: Bertram.Wlasak@stud.uni-karlsruhe.de |
AVE-100 set of RENFE-AVE, seen bound for Madrid-Puerta de Atocha, between Puertollano and Ciudad Real.
While this service runs on the Madrid-Sevilla HSL (25kV-50Hz AC; 1435mm-4ft8in), one can spot a single-track conventional line (3kV DC; 1668mm-5ft6in) further left.
This is actually the Manzanares-Ciudad Real-Puertollano-Merida-Badajoz line.
Under the original NAFA project (1985), this conventional route would have been dual-tracked and re-aligned for 200 km/h-125pmh, still with 3kV and iberic-gauge. Only in 1988/1989 did the Spanish Government decide to build a genuine HSL in that area, as a result of its preference for standard-gauge...

AVE-100.013 of RENFE-AVE, seen on a Madrid-LLeida service.
This set has just left the Madrid-Barcelona HSL and has entered the single-track chord between the HSL and the station of Lleida-Pirineus (1435mm-4ft8in; 25kV-50Hz AC). One can see the forthcoming High-speed by-pass on the left, further away. It will open once the next stage of the Madrid-Barcelona HSL (viz. Lerida-La Roda de Barra) enters service. Until then, all HSL services have no choice but to use this chord for Lleida. The single-track on the right is the Madrid-Barcelona conventional line (1668mm-5ft6in; 3kV DC). This an exported, Spanish TGV, closely derived from the TGV
Atlantique. It runs on German-designed high speed tracks, and is gauged at the
standard 1.435 m (4' 8.5") unlike the Spanish broad gauge of 1.668 m (5' 5.5").
