Class 598 (598 001) DMU "TRD" (Tren Regional Diesel) of RENFE-Regionales, seen in Beasain (Euzkadi, Guipuzkoa), where its was manufactured by CAF.

This Mk2 TRD has aerodynamic end-faces, unlike TRD 594s. It has also been fitted with CAF tilting-system SIBI.

One can notice some resemblance with X72500s of SNCF.

Would-be AVE-120s (variable-gauge, 250kph, Mainline traffic) will have a very close outer aspect, with more central vestibules and 4 cars instead of 3, though.

TRD 598s will run on fast regional services, primarily on routes already served with TRD 594s, which will be themselves displaced somewhere else.

These are probably the last DMUs ever ordered by RENFE.
