RENFE_Media-Luna_a16.jpg (52510 bytes)

Estrella 344 "Media Luna" (Irun-Algesiras), seen in one of its lastest summers of running, already on life support.

It was only formed with 2 Turista cars (B10x-10200 seating, Bc11x-11600 couchettes), both in "Largo Recorrido" livery.

These had ran on Diurno 413 "Iberia" (Irun/Bilbao-Salamanca) on Irun-Burgos, and would run on Estrella 344 "Del Estrecho" on Madrid-Algesiras.

On the Madrid-Burgos "Directo", these two cars would conversely run on a stand-alone basis.

The Golden Age of France-Morocco passenger traffic had already gone. Yet, this modest formation was well in line with the initial expectations about the Madrid-Burgos "Directo", as this shortcut would have been part of a (standard-gauge) new line stretching from France to Morocco...
