This is the Talgo III consist which last ran on Talgo 460 "Mare Nostrum" (Cartagena-Cerbère), on the last day of the Winter 1992/1993 Timetable.
The consist is seen in Madrid-Chamartin, awaiting departure on a revenue service to Cartagena. Whenever Talgo 374-377 (Madrid<->Barcelona) did not extend until Cerbère/Portbou (viz. for the Winter Timetable less the Xmas and Easter peaks), the consists diagrammed on the "Mare Nostrum" would rotate with those running on Madrid-Cartagena or Murcia. This diagram also applied to the TG1z-111 Generators, although these were useless on Madrid-Cartagena and Cartagena-Valencia, as Class 352s were in use on those segments... Talgo 4 sets displaced from Madrid-Cadix, Madrid-Santander and Madrid-Gijon were diagrammed on the "Mare Nostrum" (and Talgo 374-377) from the Summer 1993 Timetable, for 5 years. Talgo III Generator-van (TG1z-111) of RENFE-GL, seen on Trenhotel 407 "Francisco de Goya" Madrid-Paris, awaiting departure at Madrid-Chamartin.
This Generator will terminate at Irun, to be then used either on the Irun-Madrid or the Irun-Barcelona Talgo services, both fitted with Talgo III cars. Madrid-Chamartin. 21st May 2004. A 40 year's shortcut through History:
On the left, AVE 102 004 set, on the way from the Talgo Factory in Ribavellosa (close to Miranda de Ebro) to the Talgo Workshops in Las Matas (Madrid), is stored on a siding in Fontioso, on the Burgos-Madrid "Directo" Line. On the right, Talgo 201 Madrid-Hendaye/Bilbao, hauled with a Class 333 Diesel loco, passing the station at full speed. While the former has just been built, the latter has been running since 1964 between Madrid and the Basque Country, being the oldest Talgo III service in Spain... One can appreciate the difference between both generations. New RENFE vs. Old RENFE... Fontioso. 04th March 2003.
