Interiors of a Preferente-class Talgo III car (TA1-101 ) diagrammed on Talgo 250 Irun/Bilbao-Madrid-Alicante.
While this is First-class accommodation, seats are however arranged in 2+2, as was this was the norm until the introduction of Talgo III-RD (1969) and Talgo 4 (1980). Seats are identical to those in Turista accommodation, but covers are blue instead of grey, and legroom is 1/3 higher, with 24 seats per car instead of 32. Interiors are almost as on day one (1964), save as regards seat covers, and the video screens (fitted in the late-80s), while seat-back tables were removed when at-seat catering was withdrawn in the early-80s. Actually fitted on Preferente-class cars only, as Turista-class cars feature slightly longer saloons so as to accommodate more seats. While this train was to terminate at Hendaye, Irún was advertised as the final destination...
