Eesti Raudtee - Estonia The station of Koidula is brand new. Instead of an unimportant local station in the USSR this is now a border station between Russia and the European Union. The line from Tartu was rebuilt to the west, such that the lines from Tartu and Valga meet at the new yard in Koidula before crossing the border into Russia. Only freight trains cross the border, there are 2 train pairs daily to Tartu and one for the short distance to Piusa. Koidula, 24-06-2014 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |

During the stop of this train in Piusa (a few hours!) it is possible to visit the sand mines and visitor center. Piusa, 24-06-2014 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
Eesti Raudtee - Estonia From Piusa the railway line continues to Valga but there is only one daily freight train over this (not yet modernised) section. There are plans for modernisation and introduction of a Valga-Piusa-Koidula passenger train. Piusa, 24-06-2014 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
