At the 26'th of may 2006, with an Event called "DSB-døgnet", the Danish state Railways offered extremely cheap all-day tickets for all of Denmark for only 50 kroner (Approx. 6,50 Euro!). The ticket was valid for an unlimited use of all DSB-trains for 24 Hours! This offer was used by very many people, with stuffed trains and delays as a natural consequence ;-) I mainly used the day for going to the Danish Railway Museum in Odense. A couple of small shunters.

DSB Traktor 57, built 1953 by Pedershaab Maskinfabrik. DSB
received two units (numbered 56 and 57) that were technically
identical to four units of type RBE built for the Danish Air
Force from 1951, but had a larger cab. These six were powered
by six-cylinder Bedford petrol engines with mechanical
transmission, they had a power of 57 kW (78 HP) and reached a
speed of 25 km/h, they were 4410 mm long and had a service
weight of 5 t.
Six similar locomotives, but with open or half-enclosed driving
stand and a Ford V8 petrol engine, were built 1950 to 1952
for private operators.
In 1975, No. 57 took part in the film "The Olsen Gang on the
Track" in the orange paint applied in 1968 (originally it was
green). In 1986 it was painted red and black and used for
shunting until 1990. In 2001 it was restored for the museum
and repainted in its 1970s orange colour.

Powered by a six-cylinder 94 kW (128 HP) Leyland engine with
hydrodynamic transmission, it could reach 45 km/h, with a
length of 6.4 m and a weight of 17 t. It remained in service
until 2001.

These two shunters are of the 'Ardelt' type, named after the company
who first built them. Seen here is nos. 117 and 1?? at Aarhus H in
October 1989. Obviously they have already been 'dead' for a long time!
They were introduced in 1951.

Another "Nagbøl" shunter at the sugar industry "De Danske Sukkerfabrikker" in Sakskøbing on 3. may 1989. This one was also used until the early 1990's, when they were scrapped and replaced by a second-hand german köf-type shunter.

The last remains of the large narrow-gauge sugar-industry network at Lolland could be found in Holeby, where a indeed very small shunter (built by "Pedershaab" in Denmark) was working at the paper-industry "Højbygaard Papirfabrik". This was the last costumer at the "Lollandsbanen" private branch line from Maribo to Holeby and due to poor track condition it was closed in october 1989.
Photo from 14. june 1989, where the shunter seems very small compared with the brand-new DSB type Hbbillns freight car. Photo and scan by John Bjerregaard (GM567C@earthling.net). |
