Historic train "Finchen" of the former Köln-Frechen-Benzelrather Eisenbahn
(KFBE) is waiting at the station Neumarkt on 3 December 2006. This train was
built in 1911 and consists of the power cars 1285 and 1286 and the middle car
1257. The interurban line to Frechen was called "F" in the past (later it was
served by line 2, today by line 7), thus the nickname "Finchen". As you can
guess from the decoration, it was used for Advent special trips. The fairy
lights reflected by the windows belong to the nearby Christmas market.

Historic Cologne tramcar 407 runs up and down on a section of the terminal loop
at the Thielenbruch museum on 10 September 2006. On this day the centenary of
the Thielenbruch depot was celebrated. Being under preservation order since
1985, it was used as a depot until 1994. One part of it is in use as terminal
station since 1995 (with platforms inside the old hall), the other was converted
into the museum in 1997. Car 407 is known as "first electric" in Cologne,
although it never operated there. It was built in Cologne in 1902 for Bonn,
where it was in service until 1961, but it is quite similar to the first
electric cars which were used in Cologne from 1901 on.

Historic Cologne tramcar 407 runs up and down on a section of the terminal loop
at the Thielenbruch museum on 10 September 2006. At each reversal the bow
collector has to be turned to the new rear end, by pulling at the rope that is
also used to lower it. Recent tramcars use pantographs which can operate in both
directions. Although there is a terminal loop at Thielenbruch, running
completely without reversals would have required a long tour through the city,
including underground lines, for which this car is propably not approved (at
least in passenger service).

Tramcar 1877 of the Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (KVB) and historic train
"Finchen" of the former Köln-Frechen-Benzelrather Eisenbahn (KFBE) seen
side by side at the depot at Wesseling on 6 May 2006. 1877, named
"Colonia-Express", was rebuilt from two eight-axled cars to create a car that
can handle bidirectional operation (normal eight-axled cars are one-way cars) as
well as tight turning loops (in the past turning loops which were to tight for
six-axled cars existed in some places). With it's ability to travel the whole
network and it's special interior (including tables, a bar and a toilet) it is
hired for special trips. "Finchen" was built in 1911 and consists of the power
cars 1285 and 1286 and the middle car 1257. The interurban line to Frechen was
called "F" in the past (later it was served by line 2, today by line 7), thus
the nickname "Finchen".
